I’ve been noticing lots of copper and brass in the shops at the moment. My memory of brass as a child is of my mother making us polish it before christmas. I think it was possibly the only time it got cleaned. However, brass and copper are no longer confined to the fireplace fender and pokers, and frequently pop up now on lamps, kettles and even light-shades.
A friend of mine got their house revamped and the architect put in a copper door, counter top and even back staircase. It created a stunning visual effect, and the copper was the perfect material to marry the old and the new in the house.
A few bits of brass against either a dark wall colour like Farrow and Ball’s Downpipe or against a brilliant white makes the metal finish really stand out.
I’ve included a few items I’ve seen in the shops over the last few weeks. I’ve recently bought the light pendant and will share a picture once my handywoman (my sister) figures out how to put it up.
